This role is primarily responsible for identifying, communicating and supporting the implementation of energy and water cost saving initiatives for a diverse portfolio of buildings in Ontario. Requires a bachelors degree in Mechanical or Building Science Engineering with at least 3 years building systems design experience. P.Eng. or EIT and CEM is strongly preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform building energy audits and prepare reports.
Identify capital and operational energy and water cost saving opportunities, projects and programs.
Support evaluation and implementation of new technologies, including renewable energy solutions.
Develop, communicate and implement innovative energy/water efficiency strategies and standards.
Prepare Scopes of Work (SOW) and business cases for energy projects.
Assist with technical review of building systems engineering design documents.
Validate and report savings measurement and verification (M&V) for energy initiatives.
Assist with commissioning, re-commissioning and continuous commissioning of equipment.
Assist with establishing, monitoring and reporting progress of energy goals/targets and objectives.
Develop and present portfolio energy reports and monitor and report on energy use, water use, benchmarking and trends.
Communicate past, present and future energy plans and performance through formal presentations to account team and client stakeholders.
Set work unit and/or project deadlines through understanding of procedures, company policies, and business practices to achieve desired results.
Provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to internal and external customers. Respond effectively to sensitive issues.
Liaise with Facility Managers and Building Operators to continuously improve building performance energy & water consumption, repair & maintenance, and occupant satisfaction.
Understand and apply weather and other factors required to normalize energy consumption trends, patterns and associated reports.
Strong understanding and demonstrated expertise with mechanical, HVAC and electrical building systems, building automation systems, load profile programs, lighting control systems, performance analytics, occupancy sensing, intelligent building systems and associated engineering calculations and studies, energy project implementation and Energy Star Portfolio Manager.
Problem solving ability in implementation of energy auditing, energy conservation projects, recommissioning and M&V.
Have strong organizational skills.
Comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents using advanced analytical and quantitative skills.
Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills and effectively present information.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Experience with performing mechanical design of building systems (HVAC, BAS, Plumbing) and interpretation of design drawings and specifications.
Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service; needs to have excellent interpersonal skills as well as be detail oriented; strong leadership/management, verbal and written communication, and presentation skills.
Understanding of utility rate analysis and contracts.
Exhibit advanced knowledge of financial terms and principles in conducting financial analysis including calculation of NPV, IRR, and life-cycle cost analysis.
Does not directly supervise staff but provides leadership to program teams. Leads by example and models behaviours that are consistent with the company's values.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Must have minimum bachelors degree in Mechanical or Building Science Engineering (or equivalent) from a four-year College or University.
Must have minimum of three (3) years experience in HVAC systems design.
Professional Engineering Licence or EIT for Ontario is strongly preferred.
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation or demonstrated experience in energy auditing is strongly preferred.
Must have an Ontario Driver (G) licence and be able to travel independently to building locations across Ontario.
